PHED probes worker’s death - The Guardian Nigeria News
The Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Plc (PHED) has launched an investigation into the death of Mr Christian Kpabeke, a High Tension (HT) Lines Worker in its Gamma 2 Region, who died on Sunday, September 27, 2026, while carrying out maintenance work on the Greater Port Harcourt 33kV line.
The company said the incident had been formally reported to the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and other relevant stakeholders, as efforts continue to establish its immediate and underlying causes.
The Head, Corporate Communications, PHED, Olubukola Ilevbare, said the company was deeply saddened by Kpabeke’s death and extended its condolences to his family, colleagues, friends and loved ones.
“Christian was a valued member of the PHED family, and we deeply mourn his untimely and unfortunate passing,” Ilevbare said.
She added that PHED had reached out to Kpabeke’s immediate family to express its condolences and offer support at this difficult time.
Ilevbare appealed to members of the public and all stakeholders for patience and understanding while the investigation continues, assuring that the company would provide further information as appropriate and in line with the outcome of the investigation.
She said PHED remained firmly committed to maintaining the highest standards of safety across its operations and protecting the lives and wellbeing of its employees, contractors, customers and members of the public.
