Pinarayi Vijayan urges Union, Keralam govts to ensure safe return of Keralite students of unrest-hit Lovely Professional University

The Union and State governments must intervene immediately to facilitate the safe return of students of the Lovely Professional University from Jalandhar to Delhi, and subsequently to Keralam, in light of the violent incidents at the varsity since Sunday, Keralam Leader of the Opposition Pinarayi Vijayan has said.
In a statement on Monday, he said the events unfolding at Lovely Professional University must be viewed with the utmost seriousness. “Students took to the streets in protest following allegations of sexual assault against a female student. With classes suspended for 10 days due to the unrest, another urgent priority is ensuring the safety and travel arrangements of the more than 1,500 Malayali students there,” he said.
"The university's founder and Chancellor — BJP Rajya Sabha MP Ashok Kumar Mittal — along with the management, attempted to suppress the protest by deploying the police and Sangh Parivar goons. There must be a strong outcry against this. Justice must be ensured through a comprehensive and transparent investigation. An uncompromising inquiry is required regarding the management's role in the various issues raised by the students," said Mr.Vijayan.
Given the potential for ticket shortages, authorities should coordinate with the Railways to arrange special trains or additional coaches. The concerns of the students and their parents must be addressed urgently, he said.
