Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday spoke to flydubai pilot Smit Machchhar, who thwarted a possible mid-air terror plot, sources told India Today.
During the phone call, he praised the wounded airline captain for his bravery and wished him a speedy recovery, the sources said.
While exact details of the conversation were not disclosed, the sources said that Captain Machchhar told PM Modi what gave him the courage to act during the terrifying incident.
The Indian national is being appreciated globally for saving a Dubai-Tel Aviv flydubai flight despite being stabbed by his co-pilot, who was allegedly trying to crash it.
Despite being severely wounded in the knife attack, Captain Machchhar managed to open the cockpit door and call for help, thus foiling an alleged attempt to crash the aircraft.
Machchhar has been shifted to Abu Dhabi for continued medical care and recovery. He received initial medical treatment in a hospital in Saudi Arabia's Tabuk.
