PM's birthday tribute: Delhi to launch Rs 13,800-crore projects in mega campaign

The Delhi government will inaugurate projects and lay foundation stones for schemes worth Rs 13,800 crore during the month-long 'Sewa Sankalp Abhiyan', Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said on Monday. The campaign, marking Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 25 years in public service, will begin on September 17 and conclude on October 17.

Among the key announcements are Delhi Jal Board projects worth Rs 8,000 crore aimed at cleaning and rejuvenating the Yamuna, a mega blood donation camp on September 17 with a target of collecting 2,500 units of blood, and the launch of an official platform for organ donation.

Addressing a press conference with Delhi BJP president Harsh Malhotra, Gupta said the campaign will also include health camps, plantation drives, competitions in schools and outreach programmes linked to government schemes.

"The Yamuna is a matter of faith for us. Cleaning the Yamuna is not a one-day project," Gupta said, while announcing the initiatives planned under the campaign.

She said the DJB's Rs 8,000 crore projects will focus on Yamuna rejuvenation through improvements in water services and infrastructure in the city.

Gupta said projects from several departments will be taken up during the campaign, either through inaugurations or foundation stone ceremonies.

These include works worth Rs 265 crore by the Irrigation and Flood Control Department, Rs 2,800 crore by the Public Works Department and over Rs 1,500 crore by the Power Department. She said the total value of projects to be inaugurated during the month-long campaign will be Rs 13,800 crore.

The Chief Minister said PM Modi's 25 years in public service without a break was a source of inspiration and pride. She also said Delhi had successfully hosted the BRICS Summit because of infrastructure works worth Rs 1.25 lakh crore carried out in the city during 12 years of his tenure.

Health check-up camps for elderly people and workers will be organised across the city, and an official organ donation platform on the lines of the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation will be launched during the campaign, Gupta said.

She said the State Organ and Tissue Transplantation Organisation will promote organ donation.

The campaign will also include tree plantation and 'Mere Sapnon Ka Bharat' competitions, with over 5,000 schools and academic institutions expected to take part through paintings, reels, speeches and other formats to express their idea of a developed India.

Other programmes will include the felicitation of Anganwari and ASHA workers, camps to register people under Delhi government and Central government schemes, and the 'Ashirvad Ka Diya' initiative, under which beneficiaries of government schemes will light a lamp at their homes seeking blessings for the Prime Minister.

Malhotra said the Delhi BJP will organise programmes across the city under the campaign and added that schemes stuck for years had been implemented under the Modi government, while exports and rural road connectivity had improved.- EndsPublished By: India Today Web Desk Published On: Sep 14, 2026 15:15 IST
