Police educate SVMC students on women’s safety, cybercrime under Operation Trishul

The first-year students of Sri Venkateswara Medical College (SVMC) were sensitised to women’s safety, cybercrime, substance abuse, and other emerging threats as part of Operation Trishul.
The awareness programme, conducted by the Shakti team on Monday, focused on eve-teasing, ragging, crimes against women, the POCSO Act, and other criminal laws. Additional Superintendent of Police M. Srilatha participated in the programme and urged students to remain vigilant about their safety and that of others.
Police personnel explained the functioning of the Shakti app and urged students to seek police assistance without delay in emergencies. They also cautioned them against cybercrime, including digital arrest scams, OTP frauds, suspicious links, unsolicited video calls, loan apps and honey traps.
Students were warned about the adverse consequences of irresponsible use of mobile phones and social media, besides the dangers associated with online betting and drug abuse. They were also advised to strictly follow road safety regulations and conduct themselves responsibly.
Drawing on the recent incidents involving crimes against women, officials stressed the need for caution while using social media. Students were advised not to share personal information, photographs, OTPs or banking details with strangers.
In his message, SP L. Subbarayudu urged young people to stay away from drugs, online betting, cyber fraud and other harmful influences and focus on their education and future goals. He called upon them to develop greater awareness of the law, become responsible citizens and report instances of harassment, crime or cyber fraud rather than remain silent.
Police officials urged students to use Dial 112 and other emergency helplines whenever required. They said awareness programmes were being conducted across the district under Operation Trishul to strengthen crime prevention, enhance the safety of women and students, improve vigilance against cybercrime and combat drug abuse.
