Police raise alarm over online dating scams in Kempton Park - EWN

Police in Kempton Park have raised caution over online dating scams, leading to robbery and, in some cases, assault. 

Senior officials visited the area as they intensify investigations into the separate discoveries of four women's bodies over two months. 

The apparent dating scams emerged as a separate issue when Gauteng acting police commissioner Fred Kekana met with police officials on Sunday.

"Approximately 10 cases have been reported at Kempton Park Police Station, where individuals met people online and were subsequently lured to locations where they were allegedly robbed or sexually assaulted." 

Kekana emphasised that the dating scams are not linked to the case of missing runner Elizabeth 'Tsontso' Moselakgomo. 

"She exercises; she runs, as part of her lifestyle. Therefore, we cannot link the online scam with what happened to her, because... it's unfortunate what happened to her, which we are going to unearth the truth."
