Ahead of Vice President Kashim Shettima’s condolence visit to the family of the late Bamanga Tukur, the Adamawa State Police Command has deployed heavily armed anti-riot policemen and armoured tanks to strategic areas in Yola, the state capital. In a statement issued on Thursday, the command’s spokesman, SP Suleiman Nguroje, stated, “Ahead of the official visit of His Excellency, the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to Adamawa State, the Adamawa State Police Command has deployed adequate security and placed watertight security measures across Yola and other strategic locations in the State.” According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, Adamawa State Command, CP Kabir Hassan, ordered the deployment, adding that the command had mobilised its operational assets, including personnel from the Police Mobile Force, Counter Terrorism Unit, Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Intelligence, Traffic and Divisional Police Officers, to ensure a hitch-free visit. The CP further stated that there would be traffic diversions and stop-and-search operations in and around the state capital. The command further urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious persons or movements to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency lines.
