PPT based on dubious sources: BJP hits back at Rahul Gandhi over anti-EC attack

The BJPhit back at Rahul Gandhi over his attack on the Election Commission, dismissing his claims as based on “unknown, conspicuous, and dubious sources” and accusing the Congress leader of having “no knowledge of Indian politics.”

Citing the Congress’s electoral record in several states, national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi said the party had not been in power in Tamil Nadu since 1967, in Bengal since 1977, in Bihar since 1990, in Uttar Pradesh since 1989 and in Odisha since 1999.

“Rahul Gandhi has no knowledge of this,” Trivedi said.

He further said that the Congress had found it difficult to return to power since transparent elections, CCTV cameras and an independent media came into place.

Trivedi’s remarks came in response to Rahul Gandhi’s allegations against the poll body at a press conference at the Congress headquarters in Delhi, a day after an investigative report by The Indian Express claimed that the Election Commissioners were not on the same page with Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and had raised at least 14 formal objections over the past 10 months.

Rahul Gandhi launched a sharp attack on Gyanesh Kumar, calling him a "deshdrohi," or traitor, and demanding his immediate resignation. He said he was not making the charge lightly and maintained that his allegations were based on facts.

He also accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah of having "attacked and destroyed the democratic architecture of this country". Gandhi further alleged that the Election Commission was responsible for safeguarding voters' rights, and said that if the vote was destroyed, the Constitution was not working.

Gandhi said he had been raising the issue for the past three years and had done so on the basis of facts rather than conjecture or imagination. He said he had always spoken on the basis of facts and had not relied on speculation or his imagination while making these allegations.

Returning to Kumar, Gandhi said a person who attacked the vote and fundamentally damaged India's democratic institution could only be described as a traitor, and said there was no other word for it. He repeated his demand that Kumar resign immediately.

Gandhi also alleged that elections in India were being "rigged" and said there was "100% certainty" that the 2024 Lok Sabha election and Assembly elections had been manipulated. He said there was already more than enough information to make this a "100% certainty", and repeated that the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha polls were being rigged.

In his remarks, Gandhi maintained that his charges were fact-based, renewed his attack on Kumar, Modi and Shah, and repeated his allegations that the electoral process and voters' rights were being undermined.- Ends
