Prabowo Chairs Limited Meeting on Drug Eradication - Tempo.co English

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto summoned several ministers and agency heads, including Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto and Head of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) Suyudi Ario Seto, to the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Tuesday, September 29, 2026. 

According to Minister Brian, the meeting would discuss efforts to eradicate drug issues in the country, including by utilizing university research findings to support drug management.

"Regarding drug eradication, I was asked to bring along a researcher from the University of Indonesia (UI) [to discuss] issues related to drugs, addiction, and so on," Brian said upon arriving at the Presidential Palace Complex.

He said that the research developed at the university would be synergized with the needs of the BNN and the Ministry of Health, including for therapeutic purposes.

Brian added that the research discussed covered various aspects related to drugs, including the individual and the substances used.

"Everything related to narcotics, whether it's the technology, detection, treatment, or perhaps the use of the illicit items," he said.

Brian said that the university research results could later be utilized by other institutions according to their needs in drug handling.

"On our campuses, we allow for other institutions to make use of our research," he said.

In addition to Brian and Suyudi, the Head of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) Arif Satria, Minister of Law Supratman Andi Agtas, and Deputy Minister of Health Dante Saksono Harbuwono also attended the meeting.

Supratman said he would also submit a report to President Prabowo at the limited meeting. When asked about it, he refrained from elaborating, stating briefly that it would be explained "later, after reporting to the president."

Supratman arrived at the Presidential Palace Complex around 12:30 p.m. local time, followed by Suyudi, Brian, and other officials to attend the limited meeting chaired by President Prabowo.
