Presley Gerber cremated after death at treatment center: Report - USA Today

Presley Gerber's body has been cremated in the Los Angeles area days after the model died at 27 in a rehabilitation center, according to TMZ.

The son of supermodel Cindy Crawford and businessman Rande Gerber was cremated at Rose Family Funeral Home in Simi Valley, California, TMZ reported Friday, Sept. 25, citing a death certificate obtained by the outlet.

Gerber died at the Resolutions Living sober living home in the Los Angeles area on Sept. 20. The cause of death has not been confirmed, but the Santa Monica Police Department described his death as a "suspected overdose" and said there was no indication of foul play.

Law enforcement responded to a report of a possible overdose and "cardiac arrest" at Resolutions Living, according to 911 audio reported by People and Page Six. He was pronounced dead at 9:45 a.m., the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner said in a statement.

USA TODAY has reached out to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office for additional details.

On Sept. 20, the same day of Gerber's death, the LA County Medical Examiner stated a deputy medical examiner had completed an examination of Gerber's body.

However, the case was deferred, meaning "additional testing and/or studies were requested in order to make a determination" on cause and manner of death.

A representative for Crawford and Rande Gerber, who are also parents to model-actress Kaia Gerber, 25, previously confirmed their only son's death in a statement to USA TODAY: "The family is asking for privacy during this very difficult and painful time."

Resolutions Living's website says it is "a leader in addiction and mental health support," offering a program "designed for [patients'] unique needs and individual recovery plans."

John J. Perlstein, a wrongful death attorney based in Southern California, told USA TODAY that overdose deaths "unfortunately" occur "quite often" at treatment centers, particularly "because you're in there with a lot of people who were addicted to drugs and know how to get drugs."

Perlstein says a treatment center's liability for the death of a patient varies depending on several factors, including the types of services being offered. While it is unclear what type of treatment program Gerber was enrolled in, his specific recovery plan or what services the facility provided, Perlstein says negligence can involve both the actions of a facility and those of a patient.

Resolutions Therapeutic Services, founded by Dr. Reza Nabavi, has faced licensing issues, according to state records obtained by USA TODAY.
