Probe launched after video allegedly shows Hanover Park health workers intoxicated - IOL

The pair were reportedly spotted again at a local tavern in Hanover Park on Friday.

Allegations that two Hanover Park healthcare workers were drunk while on duty have sparked concern among residents, with the provincial Health Department now investigating.

A video circulating on social media appears to show a man and woman allegedly intoxicated at the Hanover Park taxi rank on Tuesday, September 15, 2026.

In the video, one bystander can be heard saying: “Dis daarom wat hulle elke keer die f****** verkeerde pille vir mense gee.” (That is why they keep dispensing the wrong medication.)

Another auntie says: “Dikgesuip is hulle! Maar hulle werk by die daghospitaal.” 

A Hanover Park resident, who asked not to be named, said the two individuals are reportedly nurses at Hanover Park Community Health Centre.

The Health and Wellness Department confirmed that it is investigating the video and allegations.

“For some time now people have been talking about how they and two other cleaners at the hospital hang out at a nearby tavern during their lunch break.

“We are concerned because these two nurses work in the injection room.

“They are playing with people’s lives,” the resident said.

The resident claimed the same two workers were allegedly spotted at the tavern again on Friday, 18 September, despite the video having already circulated online.

“It is clear that they don’t care. By now hospital management should also be aware of the video, so why has no action been taken against them?

“The service at the hospital is already poor. We cannot be endangering the lives of our people by having drunk workers perform injections and draw blood,” the resident said.

Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness spokesperson Samantha Lee-Jacobs said: "The Department has been made aware of a video circulating on social media which depicts persons who are believed to be employed by the Hanover Park Community Health Centre.” 

“The department has initiated an internal review to determine the authenticity of the video, its contents and the circumstances. The department considers allegations of this nature as serious and appropriate action will be taken following the outcome of the internal review,” she said.
