Punjab Plans Annual Safety Inspections for 73,000+ Electricity Connections - ProPakistani
The Punjab government is planning a major overhaul of the province’s electrical safety regime, proposing mandatory annual inspections of more than 73,000 industrial, commercial, and public-building electricity connections, stricter licensing requirements for electrical contractors, and a digital verification system to prevent safety certificates from being issued without proper testing.
The proposed Punjab Electrical Safety (Periodic Inspection and Licensing) Order, 2026, seeks to shift the existing system from a largely reactive approach towards preventive regulation, with a wider inspection net, improved technical standards and greater accountability for identifying and rectifying electrical hazards before they cause fires, injuries or loss of life.
