Q&A: Courts reporter Betsy Powell answers your ‘Crypto King’ trial questions - Toronto Star
Aiden Pleterski was charged with fraud over $5,000. With the publication ban on the trial lifted, courts reporter Betsy Powell can finally answer reader questions.
So-called “Crypto King” Aiden Pleterski, 27, is representing himself at trial.
For weeks, the jury deciding if Aiden Pleterski committed fraud repeatedly heard Ontario’s self-proclaimed “Crypto King” say he needed a lawyer.
But the reasons why Pleterski was representing himself were covered by a publication ban until the jury was sequestered. The jury retired to begin deliberations on Thursday at 10:15 a.m. It returned with the verdict just an hour and a half later: guilty.
Now that the publication ban has been lifted, courts reporter Betsy Powell will be answering reader questions — including why the trial judge believed Pleterski’s was calculating an attempt to lay the groundwork for an appeal. Tune in on Friday, Oct. 30 at 1:30 p.m. for a live Q&A on the testimony, what it’s like covering a high-profile fraud trial from the inside, and what happens next.
