Queenie to bring rains over Batanes, Babuyan Islands starting Saturday - GMA Network
Tropical Storm Queenie is expected to bring cloudy skies, scattered rain showers, and thunderstorms over Batanes and the Babuyan Islands starting Saturday, state weather bureau PAGASA said Thursday.
In an 11 a.m. advisory, PAGASA said Queenie (international name: Surigae) was located 1,310 kilometers east of Northern Luzon as of 10 a.m., packing maximum sustained winds of 75 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 90 kph.
The tropical storm was moving west-northwestward at 35 kph.
No Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal is currently raised over any part of the country.
PAGASA said Queenie's periphery and trough could bring strong to gale-force wind gusts over Batanes, Babuyan Islands, and Ilocos Norte on Thursday.
It also warned of slight to moderate seas with waves reaching one to two meters over the coastal waters of Northern Luzon within the next 24 hours.
Queenie is forecast to maintain its strength until Friday and will gradually intensify while inside the PAR, according to PAGASA.
It may reach typhoon category by Sunday.
Queenie is not expected to directly affect the weather condition in the next three days, PAGASA said. β RSJ, GMA News
