Andhra Pradesh Roads and Buildings Minister B.C. Janardhan Reddy relaunched the construction of a ₹2-crore indoor stadium at Banaganapalle on Wednesday (September 16, 2026).

Speaking to the media after laying the foundation stone, the Minister said he had secured the ₹2 crore from the then TDP government during his previous term as MLA. The construction stalled at the pillar stage after the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) government came to power, he said.

After the coalition government assumed office, he had instructed officials to complete the construction within four months, the Minister said. The government was giving priority to sports grounds and the necessary facilities to encourage youth to take up sports, he added.

Mr. Janardhan Reddy criticised the previous YSRCP government for neglecting public utility projects such as lift irrigation schemes, the indoor stadium and a community hall. The coalition government had taken up development works in the Banaganapalle constituency, including a Revenue Divisional Officer’s office, a bypass road, an underground drainage system and road improvements, he said.

The government had sanctioned ₹1 crore for a ‘shaadikhana’ being built for the Muslim community, and he had contributed ₹1.48 crore from his own funds, the Minister said. Work worth ₹10 lakh to ₹15 lakh remained to be completed.

The Minister announced plans to expand sports facilities to keep the youth from going astray and to build their interest in sports. Sports grounds and indoor stadiums would help identify talent among the youth and give them better opportunities, he said.

Mr. Janardhan Reddy said his government’s goal was to take up development works for the people and to function without vendetta politics.
