The figure was revealed in Water and Sanitation Minister Pemmy Majodinaβs written reply to a Parliamentary question posed by MK Party MP Siyabonga Mkhize.
Mkhize posed the question to gain clarity on recurring water supply failures and the municipalities most affected.
According to the Department, 107 of the country's 144 municipalities are facing critical or recurring water supply failures, with an estimated R400 billion needed to address the crisis.
