Rachin Ravindra injured in promo shoot accident, India T20Is in doubts

Rachin Ravindra's participation in New Zealand's upcoming five-match T20I series against India has been thrown into doubt after the all-rounder dislocated his right shoulder during a promotional shoot in Auckland. Ravindra suffered the injury on Wednesday while attempting a diving catch during filming and landed awkwardly on a safety mat.

Medical specialists assessed Ravindra on Friday and ruled out major structural damage. However, his return-to-play timeline will depend on his progress during the early stages of rehabilitation, leaving his availability for the India series uncertain. India's tour of New Zealand is scheduled to begin next month, with the hosts set to announce their squad next week.

New Zealand Performance Manager Mike Sandle said Ravindra's injury was an unfortunate accident and that the priority would be his recovery.

"It was a really unfortunate injury," Sandle said. "We're gutted for Rachin and our key priority is making sure he recovers well and gets back on the field as soon as he can.

"As with all commercial shoots involving our players, the activities were agreed in advance by all parties, with appropriate safety measures in place. Ravindra has established himself as an important part of New Zealand's white-ball setup, offering value with both bat and ball. He has played 52 T20Is, scoring 759 runs at a highest score of 69, while also taking 26 wickets, with best figures of 4/27.

The 26-year-old's absence would leave New Zealand without one of their key all-round options for the India series, although his rehabilitation will determine whether he can recover in time.

New Zealand head coach Rob Walter indicated that the team would take a cautious approach, particularly with a busy Test schedule ahead.

"With a heavy schedule of Test cricket in the next six months, we don't want to rush Rachin back sooner than we need to. He's in great hands in terms of his rehab and we look forward to welcoming him back soon," Walter said.
