Railway police recover 120 lost mobile phones worth ₹25 lakh in Andhra Pradesh

In a joint operation, Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) recovered 120 lost mobile phones worth around ₹25 lakh.

The phones were stolen or missing from Eluru, Gudivada, Machilipatnam and Vijayawada railway stations in the last three years, said Deputy Superintendent of Railway Police (DSRP) R.G. Jaya Surya.

Displaying the recovered mobile phones before the media on Thursday, Inspectors of Railway Police J.V. Ramana and M.V. Durga Rao said that the lost phones had been traced by using advanced technology by the IT core team.

RPF inspectors Fateh Ali Baig and K. Madhusudhan Rao appealed to the passengers not to keep mobile phones near windows, leave them unattended while charging during night hours and lock the phones.

“If a mobile phone is stolen, passengers are requested to lodge a complaint by dialling 139, or at the nearest police station and freeze the bank account immediately,” said Railway Crime Records Bureau (RCRB) Circle Inspector M. Ashok.

In a separate operation, GRP, Vijayawada, and the EAGLE police busted a ganja smuggling racket and arrested five persons.

A woman peddler involved in the case is absconding.

Following the directions of IGP-Railways B. Raja Kumari and Superintendent of Railway Police Rahul Dev Singh, multiple police teams conducted raids and seized ganja stocks, valued at around ₹19 lakh, from their possession. The accused were transporting the contraband to different States.

The arrested have been identified as Pratap Chhatria, Pramood Chhatria and Bishikeshan Jani of Odisha, and Prakash and Yogesh of Karnataka, said GRP CI Mr. Ramana.

“Another accused, Teju, wife of Yogesh, is absconding,” said Crime Intelligence Branch (CIB-CI) Mr. Madhusudhan Rao.
