Rain swamps low-lying areas

Intermittent rain continued in the twin cities on Tuesday, inundating low-lying areas with up to two feet of water and disrupting traffic and routine activities in streets and markets. Up to one foot of floodwater accumulated on all major roads in the city, causing difficulties for commuters. On the directions of Deputy Commissioner retired Captain Nadeem Nasir, officers and personnel of the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Rawalpindi, Civil Defence, Rescue 1122 and other relevant departments remained deployed in the field in view of the rainfall. Heavy machinery was deployed in low-lying areas around Liaquat Bagh, Committee Chowk Underpass, Murree Road, Dhoke Khabba, Circular Road and Sadiqabad to deal with any emergency.
