The process for the election of mayors and chairpersons in Rajasthan's 305 urban local bodies began on Wednesday with candidates from the BJP, Congress and other parties, besides Independents, filing nominations.

According to a list containing 989 nominations, multiple nominations have been filed in several urban bodies, including cases where the same candidate figures more than once.

The elections are being held for heads of municipal corporations, municipal councils and municipalities following the election of councillors earlier this month.

The State Election Commission had issued a public notice for election of mayors and chairpersons in 305 of the 309 urban local bodies on Tuesday.

The election process has, however, been deferred in four urban bodies β€” Jaipur, Jodhpur and Kota municipal corporations and Suket municipality in Kota district β€” where re-polling was held at 10 polling stations on Wednesday (September 16, 2026) after results in some wards could not be declared due to EVM-related technical problems.

Counting of the re-poll will be held on Thursday (September 17, 2026). The process for electing the mayors/chairperson and their deputies in these four urban bodies will be taken up later under a revised schedule to be issued by the State Election Commission.

For the 305 urban local bodies, election of mayors and chairpersons is scheduled for September 21, while deputy mayors, deputy chairpersons and vice-presidents will be elected on September 22.
