Rajeev Chandrasekhar presses for Rahul Gandhi's apology over SIR dissent row

Kerala BJP president Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Monday reiterated what he called an "offer" to Chief Minister VD Satheesan, saying Rahul Gandhi should apologise to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Election Commission or "be prepared to be called out as frauds".

In posts on Facebook and X, Chandrasekhar repeated the position he had taken a day earlier after Satheesan criticised his remarks against the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha.

The exchange also followed Satheesan's criticism of Chandrasekhar's response to reported differences of opinion within the Election Commission (EC) over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

On X, Chandrasekhar wrote, "Here's my offer to CM @vdsatheesan. If you don't take up my offer but persist in using lies, unkept promises, corruption, and appeasement as your political strategy, be prepared to be called out as frauds. Every time."

Chandrasekhar, the MLA from Nemom, had first made the "offer" after Satheesan condemned some of his remarks against Rahul Gandhi and said personal and abusive comments against the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha did not amount to political criticism.

Responding to Satheesan, Chandrasekhar said he seldom made personal attacks on political opponents but was "compelled" to do so in Rahul Gandhi's case. He also criticised Rahul Gandhi over his remarks against the Prime Minister and the Election Commission, saying those remarks should be condemned.

He had said, "If you get Rahul to apologise for calling our PM Narendra Modi a 'deshdrohi' and have him apologise to the Election Commission for lying, then I promise to stop referring to Rahul Gandhi as a fraud."- Ends
