Rats seen roaming around dining area at McDonald's in Gujarat, outlet fined Rs 3,000

Customers at a McDonald’s outlet in Gujarat's Rajkot may have expected burgers and fries, but a viral video showed something else making its way around the dining area - rats.

The footage, which was recorded at the Greenland Chowk outlet, showed the rodents scurrying near tables and prompted a civic inspection over hygiene concerns.

The clips showed rats roaming around the table and tackling each other, as well as jumping on chairs inside the restaurant.

After the viral video surfaced, a team from the Rajkot Municipal Corporation’s (RMC) food department inspected the outlet.

RMC health officer Dr Jayesh Vakani said the restaurant was fined Rs 3,000 after hygiene-related negligence was found in the dining area during the inspection.

However, the inspection did not find any cleanliness issues in the kitchen, according to the food department. The restaurant manager told officials that the rats may have entered the premises from a nearby construction site.

The food department team also collected two samples of raw materials from the restaurant for further testing.

Meanwhile, the video has triggered several discussions over hygiene and cleanliness standards at an outlet of an international fast-food chain.
