Real Madrid Calls for New La Liga President After Tebas Dispute - Tempo.co English

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Spanish club Real Madrid has hit back at La Liga President Javier Tebas following his criticism of Los Blancos.

"Our club considers it intolerable that the LaLiga president uses his institutional position to constantly discredit and attack Real Madrid, as he does in every one of his public statements," Real Madrid wrote on its website on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.

Madrid condemned the fact that the person responsible for representing and protecting the interests of all LaLiga clubs is instead constantly attacking them.

According to Madrid, Tebas's statements are extremely serious and incomprehensible—remarks that are inappropriate for someone in an administrative role.

Madrid believes Tebas is unfit to continue in his position and that a new figure should lead Spanish professional football.

Madrid maintains that Spanish professional football needs a leader who steadfastly upholds the principle of neutrality.

"The La Liga president is not the owner of the competition, but rather someone who serves the member clubs that have entrusted the direction of the competition to him," Madrid concluded.

Tebas criticized Madrid after Los Blancos suffered a 1–2 defeat in the derby against Atletico Madrid on September 20, 2026.

Tebas dismissed Madrid's claims of a "refereeing conspiracy," calling the allegations absurd and a mere distraction intended to mask the team's poor performance.

He also criticized Real Madrid TV, accusing the channel of constantly fostering a narrative of a perpetual conspiracy before matches even begin.
