Red Sox remove interim tag from manager Chad Tracy after the team's remarkable summer turnaround
Chad Tracy will not be shipping out of Boston anytime soon.
The Boston Red Sox announced on Tuesday that they have removed the interim label from Tracy, making him the 49th manager in franchise history. Tracy took over for the fired Alex Cora on April 25, when the Red Sox were 10-17, and helped turn the team around. The Red Sox are 74-55 under his watch.
The Red Sox signed Tracy to a three-year contract that runs through 2029 with a club option for 2030. The Red Sox also exercised chief baseball officer Craig Breslowβs team options for 2029 and 2030, aligning their timelines.

"Craig and Chad are two exceptionally talented leaders who have earned these opportunities in very different ways," Red Sox President & CEO Sam Kennedy said in a statement. "Over the last three years, we have watched Craig bring clarity, discipline, and conviction to the work of building our baseball operation. Chad was asked to step into a difficult situation with little notice, but the trust he immediately commanded at the major league level was earned through years of work across our organization.
"What this team has accomplished over the past several months has been historic. Results matter greatly in this business, but so do judgment, character and the ability to bring out the best in others. Craig and Chad have demonstrated all of those qualities, and they have earned our confidence in leading us forward."
The Red Sox have the second-best record in the American League and the fifth-best record in all of baseball since Tracy took over. The 41-year-old manager authored the best 30-game stretch in franchise history when the Red Sox went 27-3 from July 3 to Aug. 7.

The Red Sox's outstanding play under Tracy has earned them a postseason berth. In all likelihood, the Red Sox will travel to the Bronx to play the New York Yankees in a Wild Card Series.
The Yankees eliminated the Red Sox in the wild card round last season, and Tracyβs squad will look to get revenge.

Tracy, who spent eight seasons in the minor leagues with the Texas Rangers, Colorado Rockies and Kansas City Royals organizations from 2006-13 as a player, began his coaching career in 2015. He spent seven seasons in the Los Angeles Angels organization, including three as a minor league manager.
In 2018, Tracy became the Angelsβ minor league coordinator, a role he held until 2021. He joined the Red Sox organization in 2022 as the manager of Triple-A Worcester, a position he held until his promotion to the big leagues in April.
