Xiaomi Redmi has expanded its Note 17 lineup in India with the launch of two new smartphones – the Redmi Note 17 Pro and Redmi Note 17 Pro Max. At first glance, the two phones look quite similar, but if you take a deep look, there are some differences that start popping up when it comes to the battery, price, processor or other specifications.

Both devices are aimed at buyers who want a phone that gives them a premium experience without moving into the flagship price range. The two phones follow almost the same design language, with flat plastic frames, rounded edges and plastic back panels. Both are also around 8.6mm thick and come with IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K ratings for dust and water resistance.

There is, however, a small difference in the camera module. The Note 17 Pro has a raised pill-shaped element inside its square-ish camera module, while the Pro Max uses two separate camera cutouts.

Both phones feature a 6.83-inch 1.5K AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate. The displays also support 12-bit colour and can show up to 68.7 billion colours. The Pro Max gets the newer Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 chipset and can be configured with up to 12GB LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB UFS 4.1 storage.

Battery is one of the key highlights of the Note 17 Pro series. The Chinese company packs inside the Note 17 Pro a massive 9,000mAh silicon-carbon battery with 67W charging. The Pro Max takes things further with a 10,000mAh battery and 100W fast charging. The camera setup is surprisingly similar on the back. Both phones get a 50-megapixel main camera with OIS, paired with an 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera.

The bigger difference comes with the selfie camera. The Redmi Note 17 Pro Max gets a 32-megapixel front camera, while the standard Note 17 Pro has a 16-megapixel selfie shooter.

The Redmi Note 17 Pro starts at Rs 36,999 for the 8GB/128GB model, while the 8GB/256GB variant will cost you Rs 39,999. The Note 17 Pro Max, meanwhile, is priced at Rs 49,999 for the 8GB/256GB variant. The 12GB/256GB model costs Rs 55,999.

Both phones also come with bank offers, with savings of up to Rs 5,000 available depending on the model.

So, the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max is the more powerful option, especially if battery life, faster charging and performance are your priorities.
