Relatives allege delay in C-section led to foetal death at Thalassery hospital

Relatives of a woman have lodged a complaint against a gynaecologist at Thalassery General Hospital, alleging that a delay in performing a Caesarean section led to the death of her foetus.

The woman, who was nine months pregnant, was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday morning (September 15) for delivery and shifted to the labour room around 4 a.m. on Thursday (September 17). Her relatives alleged that, around 8 a.m., the doctor informed them that an immediate surgery was required.

They alleged that the surgery was performed only an hour later and that they were subsequently informed that the foetus had died in the womb. The relatives claimed that the delay in performing the Caesarean section had caused the death.

The doctor rejected the allegation and said the death was caused by a rare complication involving the separation of the placenta inside the womb. She said an emergency surgery was performed and every possible effort was made to save the foetus.

The hospital superintendent also maintained that the surgery was conducted promptly and that the doctors had made every effort to save the foetus under the emergency circumstances.
