Remains of missing 21 year-old student Jason Landry found six years after he vanished in Texas

The remains of a college student who disappeared in Texas while driving home have been found after a six-year-long search.
Jason Landry was traveling from Texas State University to his family’s home in Missouri City on December 13, 2020, when he went missing.
Although authorities found his crashed car on the side of the road in Caldwell County, Texas, along with his belongings and clothes strewn across the area, his body was nowhere to be found.
On September 8, a resident of Caldwell County came across human remains and alerted authorities.
A team from the University of North Texas Center for Human Identification (UNTCHI) were then able to use DNA testing to identify the remains as Landry’s, per ABC13 reporting and a press release from the Texas Attorney General (AG).
A post on the Facebook group ‘Missing Person - Jason Landry’ reads: “Today, we found out that the remains found recently were confirmed to be Jason's.
“While we grieve his passing, we are so thankful to all of you who have prayed for our family during these difficult years of waiting.”
The tests conducted on Landry’s remains could not identify specific details around his cause of death, but authorities do not suspect foul play at this time.
“This development marks a critical moment in a case that has weighed heavily on our hearts for nearly six years,” said AG Ken Paxton.
“The Landry family has suffered an unimaginable tragedy, and they will remain in our prayers, especially during this incredibly difficult time.
“My Cold Case Unit will continue fighting to solve cases and bring closure on behalf of Texas families and victims.”
Paxton thanked the years of work put in by Cold Case Unit officers and concerned citizens who engaged in multiple ground and aerial searches, new leads reviews and continual case examinations. This work built the forensic analysis that made identifying Landry’s body possible, according to the AG.
“We are also so grateful for the members of law enforcement, volunteer search team members, and the many individuals that have lifted up our family and the memory of Jason,” read the post on ‘Missing Person - Jason Landry.’
“But most of all, we are so blessed to know that Jason is home with the Lord. We can't wait to see him again in heaven.
