Report: Giants' Jaxson Dart does not have torn ACL, but news still bad - Giants Wire
The New York Giants received a mixed update Wednesday on quarterback Jaxson Dart’s left knee.
NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reports that medical evaluations and consultations are continuing, and that Dart did not tear his ACL. The injury is still significant, and a season-ending timeline remains on the table.
Dart left Monday night’s 28-6 loss to the Los Angeles Rams on the opening drive after being sandwiched by Byron Young and Josaiah Stewart as he released a third-down pass. His left knee bent awkwardly, but he walked off under his own power, and early reports pointed to a sprained MCL that might keep him out two to four weeks.
Tuesday’s MRI changed that outlook. Further testing showed the damage was worse than anticipated.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Dart could face season-ending surgery. Head coach John Harbaugh said evaluations were ongoing and that no final decisions had been made.
Garafolo’s Wednesday report rules out a torn ACL, the diagnosis the Giants most feared on the field. It does not remove the possibility of a long absence or an operation that would end Dart’s second NFL season. The team has not publicly specified which structures in the knee were damaged.
Dart had given New York a lift in Week 1, completing 23 of 29 passes for 230 yards and three touchdowns in a 28-20 win over Dallas. As a rookie, he started 12 games, threw 15 touchdown passes, and added nine rushing scores.
The Giants now lean on veteran Jameis Winston while they wait on a treatment plan. Consultations continue, and New York has not announced a timetable.
