Rescue teams recover body of 11-year-old boy in the Free State - EWN

Rescue teams have recovered the body of an 11-year-old boy who went missing after reportedly drowning in the Kgoptjane River in Qwaqwa in the Free State. 

Police, assisted by rescue and dive teams from the Maluti-a-Phofung Municipality, retrieved the body on Tuesday, 10 days after the incident. 

Letlogang Mokakuoa's friends reportedly witnessed him being swept away, but efforts to locate him were hampered by adverse weather conditions. 

Police spokesperson Mmako Mophiring said community members spotted what appeared to be a body lodged against a tree in the river.

"The divers went there and retrieved the body, fortunately, today. So, the family identified positively the body of this 11-year-old boy, who hopefully is a closure unto them. We thank all the teams that have worked together with the police, including the community member who reported the findings and the retrieval of this body by the police."
