Athlone residents fear further bloodshed after an unidentified man was shot dead at a premises in Block 26, Springbok Street, Kewtown, on Tuesday night.
The killing is the latest in a week of shootings in the area. Police were alerted shortly before midnight. Provincial police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said officers arrived at about 11.35pm and found the victim with gunshot wounds.

“Circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation. The motive is believed to be gang-related,” van Wyk said.
But for residents, the latest killing is more than another police case, it is another grim chapter in a gang war that continues to spill onto their streets.
Athlone police spokesperson Warrant Officer Zita Norman said the shooting is believed to be linked to the ongoing conflict between the Wonderkids and Fancy Boys.
Norman reported: “No cartridges were found on the scene, suspects unknown at this stage. Motive; ongoing war between the Wonderkids and the Fancy Boys.

Piedt said: “It is tense and the community has had enough. They want more police visibility and the intervention from higher powers.”
