A 20-year-old man who returned to India from Canada two months ago was found dead under suspicious circumstances at his neighbour's house in Punjab. His mother has accused the neighbour and his wife of murdering him, alleging that they took Rs 9 lakh from him and killed him by administering an electric shock.

The deceased, identified as Gurdeep Singh alias Gary, was found dead on October 31. Police have registered a murder case based on the complaint filed by his father, Karamjit Singh, and arrested one of the accused.

According to the police, Gurdeep had been staying at his neighbour Manpreet Singh's house instead of returning to his family home after arriving from Canada. The circumstances behind his stay there and his death are being investigated.MOTHER ALLEGES Rs 9 LAKH WAS TAKEN

Gurdeep's mother alleged that a woman from the neighbourhood had taken him directly to her house from the airport after his return to India around two months ago. She claimed that her son was not allowed to meet his family during this period and was kept at the neighbour's house.

The mother further alleged that the woman took around Rs 9 lakh from Gurdeep, which was used to buy a tractor and an Apache motorcycle. A laptop was also purchased, she claimed.

She said Gurdeep had gone to Canada around two years ago and had remained in contact with the family during his stay there. However, after returning to India, he did not come home. His family also alleged that his mobile phone was kept away from him and that he appeared to be afraid to leave the neighbour's house.

The mother alleged that Gurdeep was either given a poisonous substance or subjected to an electric shock. She said the family was informed only after his condition deteriorated, and he had died by the time they reached the house.POLICE REGISTER MURDER CASE

Senior police officer Balwinder Singh said Gurdeep's father had alleged that Manpreet Singh, his wife Mandeep Kaur and another person, identified as Soni, killed his son by giving him an electric shock on the evening of October 31.

According to the complaint, the accused called Gurdeep to the terrace of their house and subjected him to an electric shock, resulting in his death.

Police have registered a murder case against Manpreet Singh and Mandeep Kaur based on the father's statement. One of the named accused has been arrested, while the investigation is underway to establish the circumstances and motive behind the death.

The body was taken into police custody and sent to the civil hospital for a post-mortem examination.- Ends
