Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy at a review meeting with officials in Hyderabad on Monday

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy directed officials to make elaborate arrangements for the eighth edition of the Khelo India Youth Games 2026, ensuring the highest quality standards and creating permanent sports infrastructure that would continue to benefit young athletes even after the competitions.

At a review meeting here on Monday, the Chief Minister said the State government was giving top priority to the prestigious national sporting event, which is being held immediately after the Invest Telangana Global Summit. The Khelo India Games should be used as an opportunity to provide international-standard infrastructure and world-class coaching facilities to young sportspersons.

He directed officials to take immediate steps to include the traditional Telangana sport of Karrasamu in the games under the host State category. Referring to shortcomings during the previous BRS government, he pointed out that some infrastructure created for sporting events had deteriorated within a few years due to negligence.

The games are expected to attract more than 7,000 young athletes and around 2,000 coaches and officials from across the country. Competitions in 27 sports disciplines and one demonstration event will be conducted at 20 venues across six cities in Telangana, including Hyderabad.

At a review meeting with municipal officials on Monday, the Chief Minister instructed the authorities to ensure that garbage was not visible anywhere in the city and called for continuous monitoring of daily waste collection.

He warned officials against negligence in sanitation management and sought strict enforcement of door-to-door garbage collection.

Emphasising the need to conserve drinking water, Mr. Revanth Reddy instructed officials to discourage the use of potable water for construction activities, park maintenance, landscaping and gardening.

He called for expanding the supply of recycled water across the city. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board has already introduced 28 Green Tankers, sourcing treated water from 19 STPs, as part of the first phase.
