Richard Sherman blasts refs for pass interference call in Rams-Broncos - Rams Wire

Richard Sherman was one of the loudest voices on the internet to disagree with the controversial defensive pass interference call at the end of the Los Angeles Rams' Week 3 loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday Night Football.

The former San Francisco 49ers cornerback vented on X after a late flag against Rams defensive back Josh Wallace helped flip the Rams-Broncos game. "That was not PI?!!! That was an INT!!! This stuff is so ridiculous sometimes. So hard to play defense in this league," Sherman wrote.

The moment came on third-and-6 from the Los Angeles 11, with Denver in position to take the lead. Broncos quarterback Bo Nix threw into the end zone, and Wallace appeared to come away with the ball. Officials instead flagged him for contact on Broncos receiver Pat Bryant. What looked like a game-changing takeaway became a first-and-goal from the 7, and Denver cashed in to go up 30-26.

NBC rules analyst Terry McAulay was even on the defense's side in this one, saying on the broadcast that he didn't think Wallace's contact should have drawn a flag.

The call capped a rough closing stretch for the Rams' defense. Los Angeles was penalized five times in the final two minutes of the fourth quarter, matching the most by any team in a single game since 2000, per ESPN Research. The Rams ended the day with 13 flags, their highest total in a game since 2019.

It's a big loss for a Rams team that hasn't looked nearly as good as advertised this season despite the big offseason. They'll head east to face the Philadelphia Eagles in a huge Week 4 battle.
