Robert De Niro invites Anupam Kher home, gifts him a keepsake of their friendship

Anupam Kher reunited with his longtime friend and Silver Linings Playbook co-star Robert De Niro during his trip to New York. The veteran actor was invited to De Niro’s home for lunch, where the two spent time together and caught up. De Niro also gifted Kher a cap, which the actor said meant the world to him.

Sharing pictures from their reunion, Kher called De Niro his “dearest friend” and the “world’s finest actor”. He wrote, “How could I come to America and not meet my dearest friend, and world's FINEST actor, Mr. Robert De Niro?” View this post on Instagram A post shared by Anupam Kher (@anupampkher)

Calling their meeting one of the special highlights of his trip to America and Canada, Kher added, “Meeting this legend is always a joy, and once again, one of the most special highlights of my trip to America and Canada with me play #JaanePehchaaneAnjane.”

Kher also thanked De Niro for welcoming him into his home and for the lunch, warmth, and time they shared. “Our conversations and your generosity with your time mean so much to me. Every time we meet, the admirer in me is as excited as the friend. I have the deepest respect for you, both as an actor and as a person. And I feel truly fortunate to be able to call you my friend,” Kher wrote, before thanking De Niro, Tiffany and their family for another memorable reunion. Most importantly- THANK YOU for the cap. Your kind gesture means the world to me,” he wrote.

Kher, 71, and De Niro, 83, first worked together in the 2012 Hollywood film Silver Linings Playbook. Their professional association eventually grew into a close friendship, with the two continuing to stay in touch over the years.

The friends also reunited at the 78th Cannes Film Festival last year, where De Niro was honoured with the Palme d’Or for Lifetime Achievement. De Niro later attended the New York premiere of Kher’s directorial Tanvi The Great.

Tanvi The Great, produced by Anupam Kher Studios in collaboration with the NFDC, marked Kher’s return to the director’s chair after more than two decades. The film was also screened at the Cannes Film Festival market on May 17, 2025.- EndsALSO READ | The legends reunite: Anupam Kher, Robert De Niro in a picture perfect Cannes moment
