Rohit and Kohli reunite in India camp before West Indies ODIs

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were back together in India colours as the two senior batters reunited during the team’s first training session ahead of the three-match ODI series against West Indies. The much-anticipated reunion came in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday, September 24, with the duo getting down to business at the Greenfield International Stadium ahead of Sunday’s series opener.

Kohli and Rohit had last featured together for India during the ODI tour of England in July. Their most recent ODI appearance came in the third match of that series at Lord’s on July 14, meaning the two veterans returned to the nets together after more than two months. Both have remained away from international cricket since the England series, with their next assignment now coming against the West Indies. As per The Indian Express, the first training session provided an early glimpse of the two batters preparing for another ODI campaign. Kohli looked sharp during his time in the nets, attacking the bowling and producing a series of trademark strokes. At one point, he stepped out and struck Kuldeep Yadav over mid-wicket before launching a straight-driven six off Naman Dhir.

Rohit, meanwhile, batted in the second group after a brief interruption due to rain. The Indian team’s training session was scheduled from around 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm IST, with the squad using the session to get acclimatised to the conditions ahead of the opening match. Rohit and Kohli had both reached Thiruvananthapuram by Thursday, joining captain Shubman Gill and the rest of the ODI squad.

The West Indies series will begin on September 27 at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram. The second ODI will be played in Guwahati on September 30, while the third and final match is scheduled for October 3 in New Chandigarh.

For Rohit and Kohli, the series marks another chapter in their continuing ODI careers. With both players now back in the squad, their presence adds considerable experience to a team led by Shubman Gill as India build towards the 2027 ODI World Cup.- Ends
