Rondina-Pons tandem punches Asian Games beach volleyball QF berth - GMA Network

Sisi Rondina and Bernadeth Pons upset the hometown tandem of Sakura Ito and Mayu Sawame, 21-17, 21-15, in the 2026 Asian Games women's beach volleyball Round of 16 on Monday in Japan.

The victory sent the Philippine duo through to the quarterfinals, where they will face Kazakhstan’s Merey Kozhakhmet and Laura Kabulbekova with a spot in the semifinals on the line.

A potential all-Filipino semifinals clash also looms, as Rondina and Pons could meet fellow Philippine pair Khylem Harl Progella and Sofiah Pagara should the latter duo get past their next opponent.

Progella and Pagara, who swept Hong Kong in the Round of 16, advanced to the quarterfinals as well and will lock horns with sisters and Japanese duo of Non Ren Matsumoto.

Progella and Pagara swept the group stage in Pool G after pulling off dominant wins over foes from Hong Kong, Maldives, and Mongolia.

The quarterfinals are set on Wednesday.
