A major mishap was averted at the Pothireddypadu head regulator in Kurnool district after an iron rope connected to Gate-9 snapped while being lifted as part of maintenance work on Thursday night. Tension prevailed at the workstation for a brief while among the staff on duty.
According to officials, Gates 1, 2, 9 and 10 have not been in use for a long time, resulting in formation of rust on the ropes. “The government has sanctioned ₹46 lakh for immediate repairs of the gates. The snag at Gate-9 will be fixed soon,” said project’s Assistant Engineer Vishnuvardhan Reddy.
