Rotary president promises impact-driven projects - Punch Newspapers
The newly installed President of the Rotary Club of Arepo Longbridge, Godfrey Oboh, has pledged to make practical community interventions and measurable impact the focus of his administration. Oboh, who became the ninth president of the club last week, told The PUNCH that his tenure would prioritise projects that address identified community needs while strengthening membership, fellowship and leadership development within the club. Speaking at his investiture, Oboh said the club would focus on service that produced tangible benefits for its beneficiaries rather than limiting its activities to meetings and internal programmes. “We will seek opportunities to touch lives in practical and sustainable ways, particularly in areas where our communities need us most. Through our projects, we will continue to demonstrate that Rotary is not just about meetings—it is about Service Above Self,” he said. He also identified membership growth as a priority, urging existing members to actively promote the organisation and attract people who could contribute to its humanitarian work. “I also encourage every member to become a membership champion. Let us tell the Rotary story, invite good people to join us and demonstrate through our actions why Rotary remains one of the world’s leading humanitarian organisations,” he said. He called on members of the club to support his administration, stressing that effective leadership depended on collective responsibility rather than the president alone. According to him, he would lead through consultation, integrity and service while creating opportunities for members to contribute to the club’s activities. “I will listen, I will serve, I will lead with integrity, and I will give my very best to this club. I may not have all the answers, but I promise that I will always be willing to learn, consult and work with you,” Oboh said. The new president also urged the club to pay greater attention to young people and community beneficiaries, assuring them that the Rotary Club of Arepo Longbridge remained committed to improving lives through its interventions. He said his administration would pursue a year of “purpose, unity, growth and impactful service” and pledged to leave the club stronger than he found it.
