Rs 12 lakh crore lost to scam: Amit Shah asks Congress to discuss corruption record
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday launched a sharp attack on the Congress over corruption, challenging the party to debate its record in government with “figures” and claiming that the previous Congress-led regime was marked by scams worth Rs 12 lakh crore.
Addressing an event in Ahmedabad's Sabarmati, where he inaugurated and launched railway projects worth more than Rs 1,542 crore, Shah said the Congress should come forward for a discussion on its record instead of making what he described as “irresponsible” statements.
“Congress people who speak irresponsibly should be told by the people of the country to come for a discussion with figures. What did you do? You did nothing in 10 years apart from scams worth Rs 12 lakh crore and corruption,” Shah said.NO ONE CAN MAKE CORRUPTION ALLEGATION ON PM MODI: SHAH
He also targeted the Congress over its criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, claiming that no allegation involving even “four annas” of corruption could be levelled against Modi during his 12 years.
“On Narendra Modi, no one can make an allegation of corruption worth four annas in 12 years,” Shah said.
Shah made the remarks while highlighting the difference in railway investment in Gujarat under successive governments. He said the railway budget allocation for Gujarat was Rs 589 crore annually between 2009 and 2014, compared with Rs 17,366 crore allocated for the state in the 2026-27 Budget.
He said the figures demonstrated the difference in infrastructure development under the Modi government and previous governments.

The minister was speaking at Sabarmati, where he inaugurated, laid the foundation stone for and launched several railway projects. The initiatives, worth more than Rs 1,542 crore, include a WAG-12 locomotive maintenance shed, development works at Sabarmati railway station and the launch of the country's first LNG-powered train.
Shah also highlighted the historical significance of Sabarmati, recalling Mahatma Gandhi's association with the area and his work on Satyagraha, rural development, khadi and simple living.
Referring to the railway projects, Shah said the initiatives were aimed at improving passenger facilities, connectivity and safety while also promoting environmentally sustainable railway operations.
The programme also included the inauguration of the WAG-12 maintenance shed and the launch of an LNG-powered train as part of efforts to introduce alternative-fuel technologies on Indian Railways.- Ends
