Superstar Rajinikanth's Jailer 2 has rewritten Tamil cinema's box-office history, with the film crossing the Rs 800 crore mark worldwide within 18 days of its theatrical release. With this, Rajinikanth has become the undisputed king of Kollywood. The Nelson Dilipkumar directorial has grossed Rs 807.25 crore globally, according to trade tracker Sacnilk, becoming the first Tamil film to enter the Rs 800-crore club.

It has also emerged as the highest-grossing Tamil film at the Indian box office, surpassing the record held by Rajinikanth's own 2.0 (2018). The Shankar-directed film was reported to have earned in the range of Rs 700 to Rs 800 crore. An official figure wasn't shared by the makers.

The film achieved the worldwide milestone on Sunday, collecting Rs 11.20 crore nett (gross minus taxes) in India on the day. It registered a 15.5 per cent increase over Saturday's Rs 9.70 crore. The collection came from 8,906 shows across the country, taking its total domestic nett earnings to Rs 456.30 crore. Its India gross collection now stands at Rs 533.75 crore.

Overseas markets have contributed Rs 273.50 crore to the film's worldwide gross, including Rs 3 crore on Day 18. With its domestic and international earnings combined, Jailer 2 has reached Rs 807.25 crore, marking a significant new benchmark for Tamil cinema.

The film's domestic record is particularly significant because it has surpassed the lifetime India gross of 2.0, also headlined by Rajinikanth. Shankar's 2018 science-fiction film earned approximately Rs 519 crore gross in India. Jailer 2 moved past that figure in 17 days, with its domestic gross now at Rs 533.75 crore.

The two films also had different theatrical release footprints. 2.0 benefited from a wide Hindi release, with Akshay Kumar playing a prominent role. Jailer 2, meanwhile, achieved the record despite its Hindi version not being screened by major multiplex chains PVR INOX and Cinepolis over a disagreement concerning the required theatrical-to-OTT window.Jailer 2 box-office collection (Day 18)

The Telugu version has contributed Rs 84.15 crore, while the Hindi version has earned Rs 48.05 crore. The Kannada version has added Rs 7.60 crore.

On Day 18, the Tamil version led the collections with Rs 8 crore from 4,287 shows. The Hindi version earned Rs 1.75 crore from 3,592 shows, while the Telugu and Kannada versions contributed Rs 1 crore and Rs 45 lakh, respectively.Jailer 2's box-office run so far
