Russian Tu-95 bomber crashes, killing six crew – MOD

©  Sputnik/Nina Padalko A Tu-95 strategic bomber has crashed during a training flight in the Amur Region in the Russian Far East, killing six crew members and injuring another, according to Moscow’s Defense Ministry.

The injured crew member was evacuated to a medical facility, the ministry said.

The aircraft was unarmed and crashed in an uninhabited area, the MOD added.

A Russian Aerospace Forces commission has been sent to the site to investigate the cause of the crash.

The Soviet-designed Tu-95, which first flew in 1952, remains the world’s fastest production turboprop aircraft. The long-range strategic bomber has been used extensively by Russia to launch Kh-101 cruise missiles at targets in Ukraine during the conflict.

The bombers are part of the Russian nuclear triad and are capable of carrying missiles with thermonuclear warheads.
