RWS engineer jailed in trap case

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Court in Rajamahendravaram on Tuesday (September 22, 2026) sentenced Deputy Executive Engineer (Dy.EE) G. Ananda Babu, of the Rural Water Supply (RWS) and Sanitation Department of the Bhimavaram sub-division, to one year of simple imprisonment in a trap case.
The ACB officials trapped Ananda Babu in the West Godavari district while he was accepting a ₹20,000 bribe for doing an official favor in 2011. The accused is now working as a Dy. EE in the RWS Engineer-in-Chief’s office at Mangalagiri, the ACB officials stated in a release.
The court imposed a one-year jail term under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and one year of imprisonment under Section 13 (2) read with Section 13 (1) (d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, in addition to a ₹10,000 fine. Both sentences shall run concurrently, the ACB added.
