The South African Football Association (SAFA) has provided an update on the delayed payment of bonuses owed to Bafana Bafana players and support staff following the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

In a statement, SAFA attributed the delay to outstanding international tax compliance requirements in the United States and Mexico, where South Africa played matches during the tournament.

SAFA said it is required to comply with applicable federal and state tax laws in the United States, as well as Mexican tax legislation.

The association says that, following guidance from FIFA, it appointed specialist legal and tax advisers in both jurisdictions to assist with the process.
