Salman Khan vs Kala Hiran: Delhi High Court seeks actor's response in legal battle
In a latest update in the legal dispute between Bollywood actor Salman Khan and the makers of the upcoming movie Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy, the Delhi High Court has sought the actor’s response to a plea seeking to put his case against the film’s release on hold.
According to PTI, Justice Anup Jairam Bhambhani issued a notice to Khan on Tuesday. The filmmakers argued that the dispute is already being heard in an earlier case filed by the actor, and that the new proceedings amount to parallel litigation over the same film.
Producer Amit Jani opposed Khan’s plea to stop the release of Kala Hiran. The makers argued that Khan is seeking similar relief in two separate proceedings, including a ban on the film’s release and its promotional material.
Khan had earlier filed a suit seeking protection of his personality rights. An interim order was passed in his favour in December 2025. He later sought specific protection against the proposed film, an application that is still pending.
The dispute intensified in July, when the High Court ordered the removal of the film’s teaser and related social media posts after Khan objected to them. The makers told the court that the film wasn’t ready for release and had not yet received certification from the censor board. What have the filmmakers argued?
The makers have maintained that Kala Hiran isn’t a biopic of Khan and that he cannot use personality rights to prevent public events connected to the blackbuck case from being depicted.
Speaking exclusively to India Today, Jani said the notice was premature and maintained that the film is "not a biopic on Salman Khan." Calling the legal action "unnecessary", the producer added that apart from a poster, nothing about the film has been revealed so far.
Khan, however, has accused the filmmakers of trying to sensationalise the controversy and use it to attract attention at the cost of his reputation. The latest notice doesn’t decide the dispute. Khan’s response will now be considered as the court continues to hear the matter.- EndsALSO READ | Kala Hiran actor who quit film says he was cast for Salman link, Rajasthan roots
