Samantha, Vijay Deverakonda, VVS Laxman among names in Hyderabad SIR notice list
Several prominent personalities based in Hyderabad, including actors Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Vijay Deverakonda, as well as former India batter VVS Laxman, have reportedly figured in a list of electors issued notices as part of the Election Commission’s ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
According to sources, the other famous personalities include actor Mahesh Babu and his wife Namrata; director SS Rajamouli; actor Venkatesh Daggubati and his daughters; Anand Deverakonda, sportspersons Saina Nehwal, Mithali Raj, Pullela Gopichand; pharma tycoon Murali Krishna Prasad Divi; and Upasana Konidela, wife of actor Ram Charan.
The notices are understood to be part of the electoral-roll verification process.
Reported reasons include discrepancies in names or parent names, as well as cases where an elector could not be mapped with earlier SIR records. In some cases, no specific reason was reportedly mentioned.
Election officials have indicated that those who receive notices can appear for verification and submit the required documents or seek correction of discrepancies.
Officials have also said that people who are unavailable can authorise another person to attend the hearing on their behalf.
Importantly, the issuance of a notice does not by itself mean that an individual has been declared ineligible to vote or that their voter registration has been cancelled.
As the SIR exercise is currently underway across states, several other eminent personalities have also been served notices.
Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani and his family, along with Zerodha founders Nithin and Nikhil Kamath, are among the prominent names on the SIR notice list in Karnataka.
While Nilekani’s wife and children have reportedly been flagged as “unmapped with the last SIR (2002 rolls)”, the Kamath brothers and their mother, Revathi, were flagged over a “parents’ name mismatch” in the Bengaluru South Assembly constituency.
Meanwhile, Professor CNR Rao, one of the country’s most celebrated scientists, was also reportedly asked to appear for a hearing to establish his identity after his name was flagged for a spelling mismatch also in Karnataka.
