Samsung appears to be relying more on in-house chipsets to build its upcoming flagship models. The South Korean tech giant has reportedly started mass production of its next-generation Exynos 2700 chipset, which is expected to power several models in the next Galaxy S27 series. The company is said to be producing more units of the new chipset than its predecessor, suggesting that Samsung is planning a wider use of Exynos this time around.

According to Korean publication Thelec, Samsung has now moved the Exynos 2700 beyond the sample production stage and started full wafer production. The report says production volume has increased by more than 10 per cent compared with the Exynos 2600. This increase is reportedly linked to Samsung adding the new Galaxy S27 Pro model to its lineup.Samsung Galaxy S27 series could get Exynos 2700

The Exynos 2700 is expected to power the Galaxy S27, Galaxy S27 Plus and the new Galaxy S27 Pro in markets including Korea, India and Europe. Meanwhile, Samsung is expected to use Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 series chipsets for the Galaxy S27 models sold in the US and China.

Interestingly, the chipset inside the Galaxy S27 Ultra is still undecided. The previous Galaxy S26 Ultra used Qualcomm's flagship Snapdragon chip across markets, but Samsung is reportedly considering whether the Exynos 2700 could also make its way into the Ultra this time.

There is a reason for this consideration. Samsung is reportedly confident about the performance of its new chipset. According to the report, an internal Geekbench 6 test showed the Exynos 2700 scoring 9.5 per cent higher in multi-core performance than Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6. Based on the reported Snapdragon score of 12,856 points, the Exynos chip could cross the 14,000-point mark.

However, the single-core performance is reportedly still behind Qualcomm's chip. So, Samsung may have more than just benchmark numbers to consider before making a final decision for the Ultra model.

The Exynos 2700 is being manufactured using Samsung Foundry's second-generation 2nm SF2P process. Compared with the first-generation SF2 process, Samsung claims the newer process can deliver up to 12 per cent better performance, 25 per cent lower power consumption and an 8 per cent reduction in chip area.

For Samsung, using more Exynos chips could also reduce its dependence on Qualcomm and help control component costs. But heat generation, performance and production capacity will reportedly remain important factors before Samsung finalises the chipset strategy for the Galaxy S27 Ultra.- EndsAlso Read | OnePlus 16 is launching soon, here is everything we know about it so farAlso Read | Amazon updates Kindle with new display tech, launches covers with buttons to turn pagesAlso Read | Arattai for business launched, Sridhar Vembu says govt and public services can join for free
