SAPS warns public against sharing unverified images linked to Kempton Park killings - IOL

Members of the public have been urged not to circulate or share images of the individuals alleged to be linked to the Kempton Park killings.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) issued the warning as it had no identikit, wanted poster or photograph of a suspect or suspects in connection with these cases.

"Members of the public are cautioned against sharing unverified information, as this could result in innocent people being wrongly identified, harassed or targeted," said SAPS in a statement released on Friday. 

Police reiterated that it will communicate on its official platforms if a suspect is positively identified or if the public’s assistance is required.

"SAPS assures the public that it is seized with these cases and is following every lead that may assist investigators in establishing the circumstances surrounding the murders and identifying those responsible," concluded SAPS. 

Police in Gauteng have to date discovered nine bodies linked to the Kempton Park killings in Ekurhuleni. The ninth body was found dumped on the side of the road in Dawn Park, Boksburg, earlier this week.

From the nine known victims in what has been dubbed the Kempton Park killings of the East Rand, at least four victims have been positively identified by family members.
