SA’s confirmed Mpox cases rises by 4

South Africa’s confirmed Mpox caseload has increased by four, bringing the total number of infections to 22.

The Department of Health (DoH) said 18 of the cases are in the Western Cape, three in Gauteng and one in KwaZulu-Natal.

The four additional cases include a 47-year-old Cape Town man who recently travelled to Spain, while two others involve German and Norwegian nationals.

All but one of the country’s 22 confirmed cases are men.

DoH spokesperson Foster Mohale explained: "The public is reminded that mpox symptoms may include fever, headache, muscle aches, back pain, fatigue, and a rash or skin lesions that can appear on the face, hands, feet, genitals, or other areas of the body. Anyone who has been in close contact with a confirmed case within the past 21 days and develops symptoms should seek medical attention promptly and inform healthcare providers of their exposure history.
