South Africa’s overseas diplomatic properties could require more than R830 million in renovations.
That’s according to a parliamentary reply from the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO).
The figure is based on condition reports conducted over three years.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) said properties under South Africa’s High Commission in the United Kingdom (UK) account for about R170 million rand of the estimated.
The costs include work on chancery buildings, official residences and consular facilities.
The DA said the figures raise concerns about maintainig South Africa’s diplomatic infrastructure.
