Satheesan govt. puppet in the hands of the moneyed elite: Binoy

The V.D. Satheesan government has become a puppet in the hands of the moneyed elite who remains anonymous, Communist Party of India (CPI) State Secretary Binoy Viswam has said. In a statement on Wednesday, he said the aircraft and helicopters used by the Chief Minister for travel were sponsored by these anonymous financial powers.

“It is a source of embarrassment for Keralam when the Chief Minister hails such actions as a feather in his cap. Other Ministers are following in the footsteps of a Chief Minister who leads the way in pandering to the wealthy. Ministers leave the government-provided vehicles parked in the shed, opting instead to wait for the ultra-luxurious cars belonging to the moneyed elite,” he said.

Mr. Viswam said citizens had the right to know whether Ministers adhered to the mandatory legal protocols when travelling abroad. “The Ministers’ bizarre argument that accepting freebies from the wealthy is done to save the government money has become a trademark of the UDF. When the Chief Minister attempts to portray these modern-day oddities as a new form of Nehruvian socialism, even genuine Congress members who uphold the Gandhi-Nehru legacy are left aghast in disbelief,” he said.
